Anna Paquin, a Canadian-New Zealander actress. Paquin, born in Winnipeg and was raised by Wellington Paquin's mother, made her acting debut as Flora McGrath. For this role she received an Academy Award of Best Supporting Actress for the romantic drama The Piano at the young age of 11. She is the second youngest recipient in Oscar History. When she responded to a request for open auditions at the age of nine years old, with no previous experience in acting when she was selected for the role of Flora McGrath part. Flora is the daughter of a Scottish pianist, who was deaf. The couple were relocated into New Zealand during the middle of the nineteenth century in an effort to arrange a marriage. When she was in her teens, the actress moved to America. Paquin was the main character in Fly Away Home in 1996 and had a minor part as Jane Eyre as still a toddler. Paquin played Frankie Addams in a 1997 film adaptation for television of Carson McCullers' novel The Member of the Wedding and had a minor role in the role of Queen Spain in Steven Spielberg's Amistad (1997). She was a teenager in Hurlyburly (1998) She's All That (1999) and A Walk on the Moon (1999) and played the character of a groupie Polexia Aphrodisa in Almost Famous (2000).
